Lithium batteries have dramatically higher energy density than lead-acid batteries on a volume or weight basis—people claim four times as much energy density, but accounting for BMS weight, it's closer to two-to-one; however, because lithium allows cycling to 70-80% depth of discharge versus 50% for lead-acid, you need only a quarter of the lithium batteries for similar performance.
