Entropy Increase Underlies The Arrow Of Time

The physical reason the past seems different from the future is entropy: entropy (the disorder of a system) tends to increase in closed systems, enshrined in the second law of thermodynamics, and this single feature underlies every difference we notice between past and future—aging, why we remember the past but not the future, and our sense that the future is open—ultimately because entropy was lower in the past.
