Nazi-Mufti Partnership Blocked Jewish Escape From Europe

The partnership between Haj Amin al-Husseini and Hitler included not only aspirations to build camps in the Middle East but the prevention of European Jewry from escaping; Arab pressure on the British contributed to the 1939 White Paper that capped Jewish immigration to Palestine at about 15,000 per year while millions sought refuge, and Britain further obstructed escape (e.g. bribing Danube boatmen and threatening refugees with penal colonies like Mauritius).
