Black Hole Complementarity

Definition

The principle that information about what falls into a black hole and information carried out in Hawking radiation are complementary in the same sense as position and momentum: an observer can access one or the other but never both, because the physical setup (timing and geometry) always frustrates any attempt to detect both, so apparent duplication of information never produces a contradiction.
