Definition
A model explaining that the success of grafting between two plant varieties depends fundamentally on the compatibility of their cellular structures. When a graft is successful, the cellular structures merge and the rootstock's vascular system feeds both the original and grafted tissue, allowing them to function as a unified organism. However, varieties from different plant families (e.g., apples and stone fruits) cannot be grafted because their cellular structures are fundamentally incompatible.
