Inequality as a Ladder
Definition
A metaphor picturing the opportunity distribution as a ladder whose rungs vary in width and spacing; the distance between top and bottom rungs is set independently of merit, and removing the middle rungs (as in the post-1970s US) makes ascent from bottom to top much harder.
