Outsider/Straussian Reading
Definition
An interpretive method of reading a text from a deliberately external or distanced vantage point—whether as an outsider scholar, a foreign reader, or via hidden/esoteric meanings—to surface significances invisible to insiders steeped in conventional readings (e.g., recognizing Dickens borrowings, the Klan in Gone with the Wind, or the thriving town in The Emperor's New Clothes).
