Rodrik's Trilemma

Definition

A framework holding that democracy, national sovereignty, and deep global economic integration form a trilemma: you can fully achieve any two but never all three simultaneously. Applied to the eurozone, it forces a choice between deeper political integration or looser economic integration if democracy is to be preserved.
