Definition
A model explaining how interstocks function as biological intermediaries that bridge compatibility gaps between genetically distant varieties. An interstock variety is one that is compatible with both the rootstock and the final fruit-bearing scions, allowing fruits that would not be directly compatible to coexist on the same tree. The interstock acts as 'glue' or a 'highway' connecting incompatible components.
