Universal Basic Income (UBI) is necessary but not sufficient as a solution to automation-driven unemployment because it creates four major problems: central control and bureaucratic dependency, market distortions through uniform payments ignoring cost-of-living variation, inflationary pressure from increased currency velocity without corresponding production growth, and tax flight when funding requires excessive taxation.
Customer equity programs function similarly to loyalty programs or credit card rewards, but instead of immediate cash back, customers accumulate fractional shares in the company; this is similar to how retailers currently offer rebates, but applies property ownership rather than discounts.
Trusts (public and private structures enabling collective ownership of capital assets) are a viable model for distributing property ownership broadly because they are well-tested, constitutionally sound, have established governance best practices, and can be based on residency with no buy-in required, as demonstrated by the Alaska Permanent Fund and Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund.
