After a two-term black presidency the woke narrative held, contrary to reality, that no racial progress had been made and systemic racism was at its highest tide; Biden's Morehouse speech telling black graduates the deck was stacked against them was delusional pandering, since qualified black graduates in 2021 were positively advantaged, not harmed, in high-status hiring and admissions.

When Musk's apparent Hitler salutes drew celebration from antisemites, the ethical move would have been to disavow antisemitism and ask such followers to unfollow; instead he made Nazi jokes, boosted real antisemites like Nick Fuentes, restored them to Twitter, and funded Germany's far-right party — making his contribution to the current eruption of antisemitism at best ambiguous.

Musk acts like a psychopath on X — completely callous about harms he knowingly causes, from doxxing private citizens to feeding USAID into the wood chipper via DOGE, which stopped life-saving programs that observers recognized would lead to hundreds of thousands of deaths.

There is a natural cultural gravity in America whereby experiencing success becomes correlated with becoming kinder and thinking bigger-picture about leaving a positive mark — as the robber barons eventually did — but those rivers have reversed, with some of the most powerful and influential men digressing rather than evolving as their platforms grow.
