One came initially to launder drug money through the business but stayed and eventually earned nearly $100k/year. The United States is unique in attempting to step outside normal evolutionary dynamics (in-group competition based on relatedness) and foster cooperation based on principle rather than kinship; abandoning this experiment to reinvigorate population-level conflict would mean returning to genocide and war.

A tantrum is the strategy children learn works best for getting what they want, and once children age out of this strategy, the world rejects it. However, if an identity is built entirely around wielding tantrums effectively ('oppression Olympics'), that identity becomes dysfunctional and maladaptive in adult contexts.
“when you're a child...the point at which you are most needy and weak is when you're a child and what is the mechanism that every child very quickly learns gets them what they want a tantrum right...and then we go out into the world and the world slaps us around and says stop you're obnoxious i don't want to be around you right”
Between a stimulus and response there is a gap, and in that gap lies the freedom and power to choose your response; this freedom of response is what allows someone to survive trauma or transcend circumstance, and Viktor Frankl proved this survives even concentration camps.

Plato's Cave is the fundamental dynamic: most people do not want enlightenment; those who see outside the cave and return to report what they have seen face resistance and even killing of the messenger; the system wants to suppress awakening.

The primary obstacle to reform is the two-party trap: any attempt to propose something outside the duopoly's control is met with 'you'll empower the worse option,' which is logically false because a bad candidate losing votes to a good alternative is the fault of the bad candidate, not the alternative.

The mind is not a library (information repository) but a laboratory (testing ground for action); the point of knowledge is not to accumulate it but to test it against reality to see what actually allows you to influence the world.

If Biden wins and Democrats partner with Black Lives Matter to implement aspects of their ideology into policy, the result would be an unprecedented threat because it would weaponize the French Revolution pattern (directing people at each other to distract from elite corruption) in a novel way.
“something brand new which is the democratic party having partnered with the uh the black lives matter movement where it actually takes some of the insanity that they've been saying and turns it into policy which i think is quite plausible because the uh the purpose of the democratic party has become the protection of those rent-seeking elites...directing uh the people at each other so that they ignore the folks who have hoarded the opportunity is a natural move this is a new twist on it but it's a familiar pattern of history”
In interpersonal conflict, when positions accumulate momentum and neurochemistry becomes charged with anger and aggression, a tipping point is reached where reconnection becomes impossible without changing the underlying neurochemical state; this same dynamic operates at societal scale.
“you get so much momentum behind your positions that until the neurochemistry of that situation changes you can't re-see commonality you can't you can't feel the desire to connect anymore”
Evergreen College gave Weinstein total freedom to teach whatever material and however he wanted, which is 'magic' for educators who have passion; removing bad teachers quickly while protecting this freedom would create a marvelous educational system.
“we had total freedom to teach however we wanted teach whatever material we wanted...having a blank canvas is magic so you want the freedom to use it and you want a system that gets rid of people who will abuse it and if you can do those two things then you'll end up having a marvelous educational system”
Civil war is now a realistic possibility in the United States, and many people incorrectly calculate that because civil war is uncommon, it cannot be headed toward the nation.
“i find that i'm having a lot of conversations a week with people who seem to calculate that because civil war is not common it must not be headed our way and i just don't understand how they're ending up there so it's good to talk to somebody who spotted it as a real possibility because i'm quite sure it is”
If one willingly un-invents insight (like the scientific method) in order to achieve political goals, it reveals what kind of progress the actor actually wants; this signals an underlying desire for power, not liberation.
