In negotiating positions between the US and Iran regarding ceasefire, there are very wide gaps; the Iranians are seeking some form of long-term deterrence and security guarantees (not just a simple ceasefire) and seeking to maintain leverage through disrupting the Strait of Hormuz, setting up effective toll booths or extracting material benefit.
