Being an island is not enough for containment

Geographic isolation is not a comprehensive containment strategy: plenty of islands that restricted travel have failed (the UK being a notable example), and for most high-prevalence US population centers, treating yourself as an island will not accomplish much, though it can work for the few localities with low enough prevalence.

it’s not a comprehensive strategy for most of the population centers of the US, where prevalence is already high enough that trying to treat yourself as an island is not really going to accomplish a lot.
