When setting a goal to accomplish something you're not currently doing (like running a marathon as a non-runner), framing the goal as an approach goal ('I want to eat healthier foods') is more motivating than framing it as an avoidant goal ('I want to avoid unhealthy foods') because approach goals are more inspiring and easier to track progress on.
