Americans would resist occupation similarly

If a foreign power stationed tanks on American soil to secure a resource beneath US ground, Americans would react with their own violent insurgency—guys with gun racks planting explosives—much like Middle Eastern fighters resisting perceived colonialists; the religious overtone makes us imagine we'd behave differently, but remove it and we're not all that nicer.
