Israel Military Industries (IMI), established in 1933 as a state-owned enterprise to produce Israeli small arms, rose to fame through inventing the iconic Uzi submachine gun in the 1950s and was headquartered in Ramat Haran (originally a farming community near Tel Aviv) which became known as a weapon development factory employing over 500 people by the 1950s-1960s.
