We have entered a golden age of irregular warfare, with increased investment by US adversaries and increasing use of these strategies, particularly within the last 10 years as state-based competition has intensified, especially following the 2018 Trump administration national security strategy and Secretary Mattis's national defense strategy that focused on state-based threats (China, Russia, Iran).
