Re-recording as Milestone Not Correction
Suzuki re-records works like St. Matthew's Passion not to correct earlier mistakes (he regrets nothing in the first recording) but as a milestone, because over the intervening years both technique and the understanding of Bach—shared by all the choir and orchestra members—have developed considerably; recording is never perfect, so he would always want to do it again.
