Islamic threat plugged into the Cold War template

The Islamic terrorist threat has been plugged into the same psychological and political slot the communist threat once occupied during the Red Scare—an external enemy that serves as a wonderful hammer with which to hit our own constitution and secular values, just as the Soviet Union was used before it.
