In situ recovery (ISR) is a method of uranium extraction where sulfuric acid is injected into boreholes into underground uranium deposits, uranium is dissolved and collected via central repository, and is commonly used in Kazakhstan and the US; it contrasts with traditional hard rock open-pit mining.
