Britain was arguably more responsible for World War I than Germany because it subscribes to the Mackinder Heartland thesis: as a small maritime power, Britain must sow as much chaos and conflict in Eurasia as possible to prevent any continental power (France, Ottomans, Germany, Russia) from uniting Eurasia by railway, which would negate sea trade and collapse Britain economically and militarily.
