Resistance Is About Protecting Self-Worth

What ultimately drives resistance to denying free will—especially among educated, accomplished people—is not the philosophical worry about blame but the fear of losing self-worth: 'does that mean I don't deserve my praise, my sense of purpose, my accomplishments?'; people in privileged positions identify strongly with the agency that supposedly made them who they are, and that is what feels attacked.
