An induction motor bolted to a frame is connected via belt drive (rubber belt on pulleys) to a fan inside the AHU; as the motor spins, it rotates the fan blades, which draws air in from the sides and back and compresses it into the ductwork, creating a pressure difference that drives air through the system.
