When you start something, you should ask fundamental questions about strategy and direction first. Many creatives get halfway through a project or weekend of work without having asked these foundational questions at all, which is why the book functions as a map for remembering what matters.
The host's early success with Squidoo was possible partly because of personal insight and timing, but primarily because the strategy was sound: he identified systemic changes (rise of independent freelancers, shift toward craft-and-connection), saw an insatiable market need, and positioned to fill it—while others pursued daily tactical hacks.
