MAGA represents a complete unwinding of the 40-year economic paradigm in which manufacturing was offshored to Asia, funded through debt and credit, with cheap goods returned to the US at inexpensive prices; Trump proposes reversing this entire model by rebuilding production in the US.
The stock market rallied primarily due to money from COVID stimulus flowing into the Magnificent Seven tech stocks, not from fundamental economic improvement; meanwhile, the bond market's rising rates signal actual inflation, which contradicts the narrative that stock gains represent genuine wealth creation.
For the last 40 years, whenever the Fed cut interest rates, long-term interest rates tended to decline; however, this time the Fed signaled rate cuts and long-term rates increased instead—a complete divergence from 40 years of market behavior, indicating something structurally different is happening.
