When a second hose clamp is installed on a small-bore fitting where the barb is not long enough, the clamp may be positioned only at the very end of the barb or even beyond it, which can crush or cut the barb, damage the inside of the hose, and do more harm than good—proper double clamping requires sufficient barb length.
