Bow thruster electrical systems draw very high amperage (brief but intense draw) and can cause significant voltage drop to other boat systems if run from the main battery bank, causing electronics to lose power when the thruster is keyed; this problem is prevented by installing a dedicated battery near the thruster with its own charging system.

“the biggest issue with not installing a dedicated battery is that uh you know these units have a it's brief usually fairly brief uh but very high amperage draw um and i have seen i've been a party to a couple of instances where um depending on how the boat is set up uh one of them was a very large hatteras”
