Research centers supporting China's space science operations have been established at Beijing University, the Yi River Delta region, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, aiming to achieve breakthroughs in cosmology, galaxy science, and celestial body studies.

China is considering an inland site for a massive commercial spaceport as a backup to its existing coastal facility in Hainan, in line with China's 'strategic hinterland' strategy adopted in July, which aims to strengthen inland regions as a backup for aerospace and other strategic industries to meet national needs in extreme situations (interpreted as potentially referring to global war).

Beijing wants to make commercial launches easier by opening a new state-funded facility in Hainan that can accommodate more than 10 types of rockets and conduct more than 30 launches annually, competing with private commercial space operators and SpaceX's approximately 100 launches per year.

Analysts argue that China has a historical pattern of allowing industry leaders in a field to expend enormous resources to establish that lead, then following closely behind at much lower cost, and China can replicate SpaceX's success by studying the 10-year roadmap the US government created by supporting SpaceX, effectively rewinding 10 years and learning from a proven template.

Hang, chief executive of Deep Blue Aerospace, acknowledges that SpaceX rockets 'are now flying routinely and executing commercial missions while China has not yet mastered this technology.'

China plans to carry out space science research and development under five scientific themes: extreme universe, ripples in spacetime, panorama of the sun-earth system, habitable planets, and exploring the laws of space.

Wang Chir, director of the Chinese Academy of Sciences National Space Science Center, stated that China aims to achieve three strategic goals: having its space station enter the first Echelon by 2027, be among the world's leading countries in key directions by 2035, and become a world space science power in important fields by 2050.

China's space science development plan is organized in three phases: 2024-2027, 2028-2035, and 2036-2050, with specific scientific mission plans for each phase.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences, China National Space Administration, and China's space agency published a development plan for space science through 2050 with 17 priority areas including searching for habitable planets, extraterrestrial life, cosmic origin and evolution, gravity nature, and quantum mechanics/general relativity.
